In today’s volatile and complex business environment, managerial experience, which was once the hallmark of leadership credibility, is no longer sufficient. Organisations now expect leaders to demonstrate validated capability: strategic agility, ethical clarity, and cross-sector adaptability. Leadership today is not merely about doing things right; it is about consistently doing the right things with transparency and integrity (George et al, 2007).

The challenges facing modern leaders are multifaceted and fast-evolving, ranging from managing hybrid teams and navigating global supply-chain disruptions to cultivating inclusive cultures built on psychological safety. These demands require systems thinking and emotional intelligence competencies that cannot be addressed by experience alone. Instead, they call for structured approaches that make leadership impact visible, measurable and transferable (Edmondson, 2019; Senge, 2006).

However, even these must evolve to meet rising expectations around ethical governance and strategic transformation. Ethical decision-making has shifted from a theoretical ideal to an operational imperative. Leaders are now expected to balance performance pressures with integrity, transparency and stakeholder trust (Brown & Treviño, 2006).
